Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick in Neon Red

Hey everyone!
I saw these bright, bold lipsticks all over the US beauty Youtube and when I spotted a few shades in Boots I had to pick one up - they are the new Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipsticks (£7.19) and I got mine in the shade Neon Red. There are 10 shades available in the US, but as far as I can tell only 5 in the UK -as usual we get a raw deal as far as shade range goes.
Maybelline claims that these lipsticks will hydrate the lips whilst delivering bright, rich, pigment saturated coverage.
I actually really like the packaging of these, even if it is a touch bulky. Like the Revlon lip butters, the packaging is coloured (although I don't think to match the shades). It looks a little cheap, but fun and summery - reminiscent of a lollipop I think. Also, i know it's sad but I like the font on the little sticker.

This lipstick is incredibly pigmented (the arm swatch? One swipe!) It's easy to apply, with not too much slip which is perfect for something this pigmented. The finish is very glossy! Neon Red is a bright, orange-based red that packs a serious punch.
By two hours, the gloss was gone but it still looked balmy. The colour was less intense, but still bright and opaque. By hour four, the colour was faded but had stained my lips in a really pleasant, fruit-eating kind of way.

I love this colour! I've been leaning more to orange-based reds recently, probably in some desperate grasp for summer weather. This is bold, bright and beautiful, with a super glossy shine. It may not be the most longwearing, but it's not too bad either for something that doesn't promise ultimate wear. It also leaves behind a nice, even stain.

Have you tried any of these? Thoughts?

  1. I didn't realise how glossy the finish of these was! I'll have to take a look at the shades x

  4. I haven't tried this range of Maybelline lipsticks yet, but I know my local stores have a lot of shades. I never realized how different make-up brands and availability would be from here in the US to the UK.

  7. I have one of the Vivids too: Brazen Berry. I like it a lot. The color is very easy to sheer down, but also looks great full-on.

I'm glad that you tried out Neon Red. I've been wondering about it. Do you like any of the other reds from this line? :)

    1. We only got a few shades from the Vivids line in the UK. I've not tried any other Maybelline lipsticks. I'll need to try and get ahold of some!

  10. I was considering getting some of these. I was a redhead for so very long (and incredibly tame in my lipstick choices) that I haven't quite made the mental skip over to fuchsia hair = I can pull off brights now. HMMMMMM.

    Regardless, looks great on you!

    1. Thanks so much! I say rock it :) When I first dyed my hair pink at 14 I was far too afraid to try bright lipsticks and I fee like I missed a trick.
