Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters Haul, Swatch & Review!

Hey everybody!
Here's something exciting today - a haul of the new Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters! I swear I had the hardest time finding these - my local Boots isn't stocking them and although there is a new Boots being built in the city, it's right on the outskirts and won't open until later this month. Eventuall I caved and bought them online, for 3 for 2. You can still get them on that offer, here. I went a little crazy and got six as a dissertation-completion present to myself.

Left to right: Cotton Candy; Sweet Tart; Raspberry Pie; Macaroon; Tutti Frutti; Candy Apple
When I saw these online, I thought I was going to hate the packaging. But when they arrived, I found myself enjoying the colour-coded, quilted plastic tubes. They're bright and cute; fun for spring/summer. I think Revlon packaging is some of the best on the high street.

Swatched on my arm, you can see the colours are pigmented; this is a few swipes for each colour. When applied to the lips they feel just as pigmented but a little sheer simultaneously, allowing your natural lip colour to come through a bit. However, you can build them up. This is where they feel like a hybrid lip balm and lipstick.

Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy is a light, neutral pink that applies slightly sheerer than the others. A perfect everyday colour.

Sweet Tart

Sweet Tart is a warmer,  yellow based pink with more pigmentation.

Raspberry Pie

Raspberry Pie is one of the most pigmented lip butters I chose. It's a warm, bright, blue-based berry pink that is opaque in a few swipes.

Macaroon

Macaroon is a UK-exclusive colour. It is a warm brown-based pink with a hint of shimmer which applies slightly sheerer than other colours.

Tutti Frutti

Tutti Frutti is a bright, yellow-based orange that is quite sheer as well. I was expecting this to be more pigmented from the swatch, but on my lips it allows my natural pigmentation to alter the colour and mute it slightly.

Candy Apple

Candy Apple is a bright orange-red. It doesn't apply completely opaquely, and I think it would be a great colour for someone afraid of reds as you can sheer it out or build it up depending on how you feel.

On application, you can feel the lip butters are a hybrid balm and lipstick. They feel glossy, smooth and easy to apply. To make the colours more opaque, you need about two or three swipes. They have the satin-shine you would expect from a glossier lipstick or even a lipgloss, without the stickiness I hate.
They didn't appear to hydrate my lips any, but they didn't dry them out at all.
I found I got about three hours maximum wear time out of these without eating. They do fade pretty quickly, but I suppose that's to be expected due to their formula. I've yet to experience any melty lipsticks in their tubes but that might be an issue as it gets warmer.
As it is, these are perfect for a pop of sheer or built up colour, and come in so many shades there are bound to be some for everyone. They are one of my favourite purchases so far this year.
They might not live up to the extreme hype surrounding them, but only because the excitement for them was so crazy!
Have you bought any of these? What shades?

  3. There are just SO many colours available in these, it makes me want to buy them all but if you're into bold lips, then I definitely say try 'red velvet' because it's such a beautiful red colour. I've seen numerous swatches of it online and it's just so sad that haven't even been launched here in Australia.
But lovely blogpost nonetheless and great swatches! :)
